Students will use the internet to find a recent current events article that interests them. Once they have their article, they will have to identify the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY & HOW, and fill in their "journalists for the day" worksheet. Students will then be paired in groups of two. Using Microsoft Word, their assignment as journalists will be to create their own newspaper article, making sure to incorporate the 5W's & H. Each group will have to also use images from the internet or from ClipArt to represent their story. Remember to use your imagination!! Groups will be presenting their articles to the class.
This is a really good assignment. One question I have is if the children are required to find seperate articles, then how will they combine their work to create one newspaper article? -Amanda
I love the idea of having the students play reporter. What grade is this for? A follow up activity for students who are more advanced could be to have them create a newspaper article incorporating the 5Ws and H on something that is currently taking place in the classroom or school. - Marie
